OK, so how do I get it?

Many Telcos are offering free upgrade installations in a desperate bid to secure your account and $$$.

Once you have chosen your RSP (e.g. Telstra, Optus, Aussie Broadband etc.)
and settled on the plan that is suitable for your requirements, your provider will arrange for an NBN team to install the new fibre line and equipment.

The NBN technician will undertake the necessary installation and you will be online with High-Speed internet at your fingertips.

Telco Installation overview

Your new FTTP service will be installed as close as possible to the existing Lead in Conduit, containing your old copper line FTTN service.
In most homes, the old copper line would have been extended to a suitable location in the home, where the modem is connected and the Wi-Fi Service emanates from this spot.

Great potential… in the wrong spot

Unfortunately, the Tech will not be extending the service to the optimum area of the home, but will mount the NTD unit on the inside wall, closest to the end of the Lead in Conduit. This is usually at one end of the home like in the garage or a front bedroom with the router or modem plugged directly into this device. Not the most ideal solution to get the most out of your new service…

Now you have the problem of trying to achieve a good strong Wi-Fi signal at the other end of the home!

Relocation of NBN NTD units and upgrading of battery back-up power supplies

Firstly, Why move the box?

Well, unfortunately, what is commonly referred to as the “NBN box”  – the large and cumbersome NTD Unit – is frequently installed in an unsuitable room or cupboard of the customer’s home, and as such, we are often requested to relocate the NTD unit to a more favourable/accessible spot.

Not everybody wants to sleep with one of these in their bedroom…

Internet Repairs will relocate the NTD unit to a suitable location. Following the safe relocation procedure, we then re-deploy the NBN FTTP service and test to ensure all is working properly.

Power Supply Unit vs Micro Power Supply

Power Supply Unit

Sometimes the NTD box is coupled with a large Power Supply Unit, which poses its own problems when the battery must be replaced by the end user.

Micro Power Supply

We can replace this unit with a small Micro Power Supply, which is inserted into the NTD unit. For you, this means one less box hanging off your wall and you’ll never need to replace a battery.

WiFi Access Points

WiFi Access Points are a great way to spread the Data throughout the home or workplace.

Access Points, usually in dome form, are mounted in ceilings and connected using a data cable to the Internet source, usually a Modem or Network switch.

WiFi Access Points installed by Internet Repairs are powered by PoE technology, which means NO additional GPO sockets are required near the WiFi device.

WiFi Access Points can be a more cost effective solution for the home as opposed to setting up individual data cables to each room or work station.

WiFi Bridge Solutions

We often provide great WiFi solutions for Granny Flats, and other additional buildings on our clients’ premises with the deployment of WiFi Bridge set ups.

As opposed to general WiFi access points, which radiate a 360-degree spread of data. WiFi bridge units are configured to target a much smaller area with a higher concentration of data. Two-Directional devices are mounted on the two separate buildings to facilitate simultaneous sending and receiving of data with minimal data loss.

The two WiFi transmitters are set up to directly face each other over the required distance and like the beams of light from a torch we calibrate them to literally shine at each other with a tight beam of data.

In general, WiFi Bridge solutions are a more affordable solution over 50 metres, compared to trenched outdoor rated data cable.

Internet Repairs – Builders’ Service

• Trench and lay 20mm conduit from the property boundary to designated building entry point (B.E.P.)
• Pull 2-pair lead-in cable through conduit
• Mount LUCA Box to wall of the house
• Install CAT 6 cable from Luca Box, which is then run through and connected to the designated 1^st  socket
• Run diagnostic cable tests from boundary point to the 1^st socket.

Approximately 80% of internet service faults we diagnose and repair, originate from poor quality internal cabling, especially old Telstra set-ups from pre-NBN days. The remaining 20% of faults, are a mix of NBN Network issues and/or customer modem issues that we can identify and record test results for you to take to your Internet Service Provider.

Sometimes drop-outs can be caused by 3^rd party influences, such as pool pumps and other nearby electrical appliances.

End of the Line…

NBN-technicians are not required to repair internal wiring faults beyond the Network Boundary Point (NBP). In most cases, the lead-in cable from the network terminates at the 1^st socket.
At commercial dwellings (with multiple shops and/or units, the network terminates at the MDF in a Telecoms room. Once again, NBN authorised technicians are not obliged to investigate or provide service beyond this point.

A service call to your premises by one of CCIR’s fully registered and insured internet technicians, could make a world of difference to your internet service.

Essentially, it is the 2 pair cable that physically connects your premises from the Network Boundary Point (NBP) to the buried Telstra or NBN distribution network.

The Lead-In will be in the form of either:

• an aerial cable from the premises NBP, on eve of roof to the pole joint in the aerial distribution network, or
• a buried Lead-In Cable from the premises NBP to the pit located on the Street side of the Front boundary.

Installation

Your RSP can arrange the installation of an aerial lead-in cable (new services), if required.

Customer must bear the cost of a buried lead-in cable to the property’s front boundary. In addition, if there is no existing lead-in cable or conduit in place, new customers are required to trench and lay 20 mm white PVC conduit (at a depth of 300 mm from the NBP on the side of building to the front boundary), for connecting into the Network.

Faults and Repairs

Moisture and electrolysis have a negative impact on telephone and ADSL wiring. A common fault in especially older homes, involve corroded lead-in cables, where years of use have taken their toll.

If your lead in cable requires repairs, your RSP can request this Network Remediation from either Telstra or NBN Co.
